Business consortium partners with TSTC West Texas for $955,052 job-training grant

Buzzi Unicem USA, Ludlum Measurements Inc., UpWind Solutions Inc. and Wind Energy Turbine Services Inc. have partnered with Texas State Technical College West Texas (TSTC West Texas) to provide job training using a $955,052 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC).
The grant will be used to custom train 387 new and incumbent workers in skills including advanced metal inert gas welding, advanced machining, hydraulics and electrical safety in the workplace. Those trained will include material handling and equipment attendants, machinists, assemblers and wind turbine service technicians. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average hourly wage of $18.74.
TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton will present a check to TSTC West Texas Interim President Kyle Smith and representatives from the partnering businesses at an 11:30 a.m. ceremony in the board room of the Lance Sears Building located at TSTC West Texas, 300 Homer K. Taylor Dr. in Sweetwater.
