On Wednesday Buzzi Unicem USA, located in Maryneal, was honored at the Workforce Solutions Board meeting. They were recognized for receiving the Local Employer of Excellence Award for the Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas, at the Texas Workforce Commission’s (TWC) 17th Annual Texas Workforce Conference held Dec. 4-6 in San Antonio. The Local Employer Award of Excellence Award honors employers that are actively involved with their local Workforce Board and have made a positive impact on employers, workers and the community.
Buzzi Unicem USA manufactures and supplies cement and masonry cement to ready-mix concrete, highway and airport paving, concrete block and concrete product companies. The company upgraded its Maryneal plant with a new $40 million production line, increasing its overall production and securing the continued employment of its 110 employees. In order to train its employees to operate the new technology, Buzzi Unicem utilized internal and external training programs for incumbent staff, almost 1700 man-hours at a cost of $75,998, to ensure its employees would be ready to use the new production line by June 1. Buzzi Unicem is partnering with West Central Texas and Texas State Technical Institute for a Skills Development Grant to meet the company’s future training needs.
The Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas Board is one of 28 boards in the state charged with oversight and policy-making responsibility for workforce and training programs in a 19 county region.
