Carmaleta Whisenant Sudbrock

July 23, 2011

Carmaleta Whisenant Sudbrock, daughter of one of the area’s pioneer ranch families, died at home on July 18, at the age of 95. Born during World War I, Carmaleta grew up on a ranch in Fisher County. Although she lived
for several years in New Mexico, Florida and Utah, she remained at heart “a rancher’s daughter” who felt that there was no prettier place in the world than the West Texas prairie. She spent the final decades of her life on
her little ranch near Longworth, not far from the ranch where she was raised. One of the many accomplishments of her long life was the foster care she provided to dozens of children; work she began when she was in her twenties and continued well into her seventies.
She is survived by her own three children; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
