Cecil S. Slater, 85, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center in Auburn, NY. Born Jan. 9, 1926 in Roscoe, TX, he was the son of the late William Vining Boone and Hattie Lewis Slater. He was a W.W. II Navy Veteran and retired as a self employed business owner of Cecil S. Slater, Inc., in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Cecil was made a Master Mason at Lodge #559 in Abilene, Texas on Jan.14, 1953.
Masonic graveside services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Alan Kinney officiating along with Sweetwater Masonic Lodge # 571. Interment will follow after the service directed by McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater, TX.
There will be a formal visitation at 10 a.m. on Thursday morning at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 East Third Street, Sweetwater, Texas 79556 until service time, for the family to receive friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Timothy Cecil Oâ€™Connor-Slater.
He survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lucille Wallace Slater; his son, Westley Slater (Melanie Wiedorn) of NY City; a brother, J. Wells â€śDocâ€ť Slater (Evelyn) of Colorado City, TX; two grandchildren, Benjamin Patrick Oâ€™Connor-Slater and Erin Zoe Oâ€™Connor-Slater and; a great-grandchild, Olivia Grace.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Cecilâ€™s memory can be made to the Boy Scouts of America.
