Goodwill Week 2011: May 1-7

ABILENE, Texas - With unemployment rates on the rise and extra money being hard to come by, nonprofit agencies such as Goodwill-West Texas remain committed to helping people gain employment. Goodwill knows that it takes a comprehensive approach to help people find and keep good jobs. In Abilene and other West Texas locations including Midland, Odessa, Sweetwater, San Angelo, Clyde, Brownwood and Eastland, Goodwill is changing lives by providing job training programs, career placement assistance and other support services such as a specific Veterans Outreach program.
Goodwill-West Texas sells your donated house wares, clothing, furniture, electronics and other items, and uses the revenues to fund employment training programs for people with a disability, those who lack education or work experience, and others having a hard time finding employment. When people shop at Goodwill, they make an economic investment in their communities because the funds are tied directly to critical community-based programs and career advancement services, as well as a computer recycling program. Approximately 87% of Goodwill's revenues gained through their stores, janitorial and grounds keeping services fund programs to help people obtain new skills to gain the self-confidence and sense of dignity that work provides. Last year, more than 400 individuals in West Texas benefited from Goodwill’s career programs.
"As we celebrate Goodwill Week 2011, we want to say Thank You to the people of Abilene and the greater west Texas area whose continued support allows us to help people find and keep good jobs, and enjoy the dignity and independence that work brings."
Jobs do more than pay the bills; jobs build lives.
