BEST Robotics Steering Committee Bob Peterson, Keith Plantier, Joni Coons, Beverly Campbell, Terry Blankenship and Austin Mullins accept a Gold Sponsorship donation from the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. Presenting the check is Jacque McCoy, Executive Vice President of the Chamber. Steering committee members expressed their gratitude to the Chamber for supporting this event and helping to bring the program to the area. The competition season has started - the Kickoff event was held on Saturday, Sept. 10, and there were representatives from 10 local schools. About 130 students, teachers and volunteers spent the day learning about the BEST Robotics Program, getting a first look at the official playing field and picking up their kit parts. The schools will return on Saturday, Oct. 15 for a practice day, then will be in competition all day Saturday, Oct. 22, on the Sweetwater TSTC Campus. The participating schools are all part of Region 14 and two of them will advance to the Regional Competition in Dallas in November. The public is invited to watch the competition.
