October 17, 2013

Shown, Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, community members and members of the Future Sweetwater group were in attendance for the ribbon cutting ceremony at Terry's Homemade Ice Cream and Italian Ice.

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at Terry's Homemade Ice Cream and Italian Ice on Wednesday morning. Located at 109 Locust Street (the blue building behind the Texas Theater), the shop first opened on Labor Day weekend. Terry's is owned and operated by Terry and Carol Frye of Sweetwater. Karen Peyton is the store manager with Kayla Fite helping out as well. Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce and community members, along with the Future Sweetwater group were in attendance for the ceremony. Terry thanked everyone for coming and explained that opening an ice cream shop has been a lifelong dream of his. When asked about his recipes, Terry said "I mainly come up with my own ideas for flavors, but my daughter-in-law, Kayla, has given me some good ideas. I've gotten suggestions from other people as well."
Samples of homemade ice cream and Italian ice were handed out at the event. Terry's Homemade Ice Cream and Italian Ice is open Monday through Saturday from noon to 8 p.m., except Wednesday when they close at 5 p.m. Ice cream flavors include the standard chocolate and vanilla, but more adventurous flavors such as coconut, key lime and caramel coffee are also available. Flavors for the Italian ice vary as well; from cherry, lemon and mango to root beer, strawberry lemonade and piña colada.
