Charles Henry Roberson, 85 reunited with his wife Agnes on July 13, 2012. Charles (Snook) was born in Sweetwater, Texas to Hosie and Lillie Ann Roberson on Jan. 25, 1927. He will be remembered as one of God’s special blessings sent to share his caring, gentle and loving heart. He will truly be missed.
Charles attended Booker T. Washington High School in Sweetwater, Texas. He actively served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was a retired Supervisor of Lone Star Industries. Charles was a faithful member of Greater Zion Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon, Treasurer and as a member of the financial committee. He was a member of the Sweetwater Country Club, a Red Coat Member of the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce, Goodfellows, Big Country Medical Reserve Corps, United Way and the County-City Library Board. His favorite past times included attending his great-grandchildren’s and other family events, watching and playing golf. Earlier this year he participated in the Walk to Emmaus.
He leaves to cherish his memory one sister, Dorothy Ward of Los Angeles, California; three daughters and one son-in-law, Cora Lee Moore, Sylvia Jean Watts of Forth Worth, Lillie Ann and Joe Paul Johnson of Irving; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; local nieces, Gladys and Gilda Gerst, Phyllis Roberson of Sweetwater, Audria Hammond of Abilene; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many many friends.
Charles was preceded in death by wife Agnes; parents, Hosie and Lillie Roberson; brothers, Lisso and Travis; sisters, Maurice Smith and Sylvia Roberson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the McCoy Chapel of Memories with the Reverend William Jackson officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
