City projects discussed at meeting

October 10, 2013

The Sweetwater City Commission discussed the progress of two projects during Tuesday morning's meeting, including the Hunter Well Field.
A resolution was approved, which expresses official intent to reimburse cost of the water and sewer system projects. A representative with Southwest Securities was at the meeting to discuss the matter, notably the $1.9 million loan the city has applied for from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).
The reimbursement resolution would ensure financing and allow for money to be spent in order to pursue the work on the Hunter Well Field. The reimbursement would then take place approximately a year and a half from this time.
The city hopes to get approval from the loan application from the TWDB during their October meeting. Pending approval, additional financial work could be done and a timetable could be presented.
Thereafter, approval was given to authorize Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd to advertise for bids to drill and complete three or more municipal water wells on the Hunter Well Field. City manager Eddie Brown stated that water well drillers are presently in high demand, prompting the city to go ahead and schedule a driller while awaiting approval on the loan.
Also during the meeting, bids were opened for painting repairs to the Loop 549 ground storage tank by John Voller with Enprotec/Hibbs & Todd.
Ten bids were presented--although one bid was not complete, with prices ranging from $54,000 to $90,393 and a completion date anywhere from 15 days to 90 days. Following a review by staff, approval was given to award the bid to Blastco Texas, Inc. at the cost of $54,000 and 60 days to complete the project.
