City recycling center doing its part to help the environment

April 22, 2014

Earth Day is April 22 and everyone in Sweetwater can easily do their part to help the environment. If you were unaware, Sweetwater has a refuse disposal and recycling drop-off center located at 807 W. Broadway and is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The drop-off center provides a spot for area residents and businesses to take their refuse for transit to a certified disposal site. The center also allows the public to bring their recyclables — metal, glass, cardboard, paper, tires, used motor oil and filters, brush and yard waste — at no cost.
Having this waste and recyclables center reduces the potential for illegal dumping and supports the 40% waste reduction goal set by Texas Legislation of 1991, but the responsibility also lies with the businesses and citizens of Sweetwater.
Sweetwater also has a landfill, located at 3000 W. Alabama and is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to noon and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays. Admittance to the landfill requires proof of residence in Sweetwater.
