Sweetwater City Manager Eddie Brown presented a report during the recent regular meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission.
Brown stated that the next meeting, to be held July 23, will be an important meeting where commissioners will review requests for proposals and qualifications and award contracts for financial advisors, bond counsel and engineers for the Hunter Well Field Construction Project.
Brown informed Mayor Wortham and the city commissioners of the expiration of Billy Whisenant's and Art Maberry's three year terms on the Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development (SEED) board in October and said that nominations should be considered at a future meeting to fill those spots.
A Texas Municipal League (TML) Region 6 meeting will be held in Menard on July 18, at 5:30 p.m. and the TML Annual Conference will be held Oct. 8-11 in Austin. Brown mentioned those that plan on attending should notify Kelli Ferguson as soon as possible.
The assignment of the Airport Lease Agreement to Robert F. Elliott has been completed. Brown expressed his excitement for the assignment and said it is a good business plan.
The City of Sweetwater is in Stage I of the Water Conservation/Drought Contingency Plan, which is voluntary. Conditions are being monitored for a possible move to Stage II, noted Brown. Stage II of the plan would limit watering to be between midnight and 6 a.m.
Brown stated that city staff is currently identifying substandard structures for consideration at the Aug. 13 City Commission meeting. At this time, they are only able to handle 10 structures.
The last item on the report pertained to the Industrial District Contract with Georgia Pacific, which expired June 30, 2013. City staff and attorneys have been negotiating a new contract with Georgia Pacific that will expire on June 30, 2020. City staff are planning on bringing a contract for approval to the July 23 meeting. If they do not have the contract, city staff will request that the City Commission initiate annexation proceedings for the entire Georgia Pacific property within the Extra Territorial Jurisdiction (ETJ).
