Community Captains to host block party this weekend

April 10, 2014

The Community Captains of Sweetwater will be holding a block party this weekend, April 11 and 12, at Jones Park starting at 6 p.m. Friday evening. The first annual Community Captains Softball Tournament will kick off Saturday morning at 7 a.m. Ten co-ed teams from Abilene, San Angelo, Roby and the surrounding area will compete in a double elimination tournament. Concessions will be served throughout the day, including brisket sandwiches, sausage on a stick, Frito pie, nachos, chili dogs, snow cones and much more.
"We want people to get outside and have fun," said Nemesis Armstead, one of the founding members of Community Captains. "We want this to be something we can do year after year, to bring awareness to this park, and to get the community involved. We're trying to raise money to do more projects throughout the summer as well."
A garage sale will also be held Saturday morning at 11 a.m. Other entertainment includes a live DJ, dunking booth, numerous raffles, bounce houses, face painting and games.
Jones Park is located on the corner of Tom Green and Jennie Street. "Just look for the bounce house and other attractions!" said Armstead.
For more information, call Mr. Armstead at 325-455-5381 or Mr. Jason Blueford at 325-242-5845.
