Thanksgiving in Sweetwater means unity. For the past 22 years, the Nolan County Ministerial Alliance has hosted a Community Thanksgiving service to give local churches an opportunity to unite with one heart and voice to celebrate the amazing grace of God.
This year, the Ministerial Alliance will host the Community Thanksgiving Service at Emmanuel Fellowship Church, on Sunday, Nov. 24, at 5 p.m. “Thankful For You” is the theme of this year’s service. The time of worship will include testimonies from members of the community, expressing gratitude for those who have been spiritual mentors in their life.
Local pastors have worked together in a cooperative effort to put together a refreshing evening that reflects the great quality of ministry our local churches have to offer. Eric von Atzigen, pastor of Emmanuel Fellowship Church and one of the event organizers remarks, “This is my 12th Community Thanksgiving service to participate in since moving to Sweetwater in 2002, and I am truly excited about the current level of cooperation among leaders of local churches.” He continues, “The Thanksgiving service is a remarkable opportunity for Christians from every denomination to join together on behalf of our great community simply to express our gratitude to our Heavenly Father.”
The Ministerial Alliance is a network of local churches working together to provide support and fellowship for local pastors and help meet the needs of our community. Through the Brown Bag program, the Ministerial Alliance helps provide more than 850 bags of groceries a month to local families. They are also able to provide prescription assistance to people in need and work with the Sweetwater Police Department to assist transients as they pass through town. As part of the Thanksgiving service, an offering will be received to support the ongoing ministry of the Ministerial Alliance in the community.
Everyone is encouraged to come and participate in the warm fellowship of this annual event. Emmanuel Fellowship Church is located at 1418 Hailey Street.
