Completion date set on SNAP building construction
Sweetwater City Manager Eddie Brown gave his monthly report during Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission. An update was offered on the progress of the SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program) building, as work on drywall, paint, and the ceiling is currently being completed. The city is looking at a completion date of August 31, in which Brown said the progress is on target for that timing. At next month's regular meeting, the mayor and city commissioners have been asked to consider the nomination of two SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board members, for three year terms that will begin on October 1. The terms for current board members Art Maberry and Billy Whisenant expire September 30. However, both men have expressed a willingness to continue to serve the community in this capacity. Also in October, the annual TML (Texas Municipal League) conference will be held in Austin from the 9th through 11th. Any commissioners who would like to attend must inform Kelli Ferguson in order to reserve a spot. The application for financial assistance for the construction to develop the Hunter Well Field and pipeline was filed last week with the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) and is currently under review. In addition, the city's 2013 certified collection rate from the Nolan County Central Appraisal District (CAD) was at 96%--the same as 2012. Furthermore, Union Pacific Railroad has notified the city that they are constructing a crew change track between Loop 549 and Musgrove Street. As the city has a six-inch water line on the north side and a 12-inch water line on the south side--which crosses under at Hoyt, the city will be required to relocate the lines at their cost.Brown stated that the cost to move the lines would be "substantial," but hoped that the project could be completed by the city by January 2014. While uncertain of the timeline, the city is tentatively expecting the project to run around three months and will be in an emergency mode in order to complete the relocation.
