County approves increase in reserve officers for NCSO

November 26, 2013

During the Nolan County Commissioners meeting on Monday morning, approval was given to increase the authorized number of reserve deputies (non-paid) in the Sheriff's Office from four to six.
Sheriff David Warren stated that recently, more people have stepped up to serve in this role. While they serve on a voluntary basis, the non-paid reserve deputies take part in the full academy, just like a paid deputy.
As a result, the reserve deputies have the same power and authority. However, the decision to increase the number was required to go before the commissioners for approval.
In addition, a contract with Securus Technologies for inmate telephone services in the Nolan County Jail was approved. Warren explained that they have worked with the company before, in which the contract would be a renewal.
Some provisions were noted, in which the contract would be a 12 month agreement with a midterm renewal. Approval was given toward the item, with the understanding of the commissioners that the company could either approve or seek amendments to the work done by the county on the contract.
Also during the meeting, two agreements between the county and Election Systems and Software (ES&S), LLC for election-related services was approved. County Clerk Pat McGowan said that the agreements--one for each voting party--was made so that the county could make the payment to the company, in which the county would then collect from the two parties.
Furthermore, approval to leave the burn ban in Nolan County off for the next two weeks, while the minutes of the November 12, 13 and 18 meetings were approved.
Several items were also received during the meeting--the statement of financial position and the 4th quarterly report for the 2013 fiscal year for the 32nd Judicial District Community Supervision and Corrections, as well as the reports from the Nolan County Auditor, Treasurer, Tax Office, Veterans Service Office and the Government Trapper.
