Crews began removing night and truck speed limit signs in TxDOT’s 13-county Abilene District on Friday, Nov. 4.
The 65 mph nighttime and truck speed limit was eliminated by HB 1353 enacted by the 82nd Legislature. Although the law went into effect Sept. 1, signs are just now coming down because the removal had to be scheduled by contract throughout the entire state, said Roy Wright, P.E., Transportation Operations Director for TxDOT’s Abilene District.
Signs along I-20 in Callahan, Taylor, Nolan, Mitchell and Howard Counties were removed first, beginning Friday, Nov. 4. Signs along other highways throughout the district will be removed over the next two weeks. The Abilene District includes Kent, Stonewall, Haskell, Borden, Scurry, Fisher, Jones, Shackelford, Howard, Mitchell, Nolan, Taylor and Callahan counties.
