AUSTIN — Kiley Cummings missed by .01 second claiming a third-place medal in the girls 400-meter dash at the Class 1A state track meet Saturday.
The Blackwell freshman recorded a time of 1:00.33. The third-place bronze was awarded to Sydney Ritter of Groom, who hit the tape in a final time of 1:00.32.
Cummings competed in two other events Saturday, placing seventh in the triple jump (33-4 3/4) and ninth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.21.
The other girls qualifier from Blackwell was Jordan Jones, a sophomore, who narrowly missed getting a third-place medal Friday in the pole vault with a fourth-place leap of 9-0.
Jones was making her second trip to the state meet in the pole vault. She also placed fourth in the event in 2017. Jones and Cummings accounted for Blackwell’s eight team points at this year’s meet.
The Blackwell boys had two competitors at the 1A state track meet Saturday.
Sophomore Brandon Brinkman got a point by placing sixth in the 110 hurdles (16.02) and also ran the 300 hurdles, placing ninth (43.87). Hunter Clark also competed in the 110 hurdles on Saturday but was disqualified due to a hurdle violation.
For Cummings, Brinkman and Clark it was their first time to make the trip to Austin as state track competitors.
