Funeral services for Dan William Carter, Sr., 89, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011, at First Presbyterian Church Chapel with Rev. Earl Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Carter died Sunday, Aug. 7, 2011, at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.
He was born June 3, 1922, in Farmingdale, N.Y. He married Imogene Thomas in December of 1945, in Horado, Miss. Dan moved to Sweetwater in February of 2011 with his family from San Clemente, Calif. He had also lived in El Paso and Las Vegas. He was retired from the United States Army and worked as an instructor for the United States Civil Service. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, a member of the Sertoma Club, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Survivors include his son, Dan W. Carter, Jr. of Sweetwater; and several nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Thomas Carter on April 18, 2011.
