Corporal Darryl Campbell (shown), Snyder police officer & former Sweetwater police officer

The Snyder police officer and former Sweetwater police officer recovering from a gunshot wound to the head is making steady progress.
Corporal Darryl Campbell is still in a Lubbock rehab center. Friends and family say his recovery has been miraculous. Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke says members of the police force visit him often and it lifts everyone's spirits to see him doing better.
Campbell was able to make an appearance at an August concert held in his honor. He has been slowly regaining speech and motor skills.
A benefit in his honor will be held in Sweetwater on Saturday, Sept. 24, at the Sweetwater Elks Lodge, sponsored by the Sweetwater Police Patrol Association and the Sweetwater Elks Lodge. A brisket lunch is planned for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a brisket dinner at 6 p.m. A live auction will be held at 7 p.m. and a DJ dance will follow. Brisket plates include a homemade dessert and drink. Lunch will be $8 per person and dinner, auction and dance will be $10 per person. Dance only is $5 per person.
