National Financial Literacy Month is recognized in the United States in April in an effort to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach Americans how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits. Texas National Bank recognizes the importance of financial literacy in the community and seeks to actively create a more secure financial future for the citizens of Nolan County. To encourage young people to learn how financial decisions can help or hinder them as they try to get the most from their money, the bank is hosting a financial literacy essay contest for eighth graders in the county. The contest is open to eighth graders from Blackwell, Highland, Roscoe and Sweetwater school districts. Three winners will be selected from the pool of entries.
In their essays, students will need to discuss three steps people can take to begin building wealth regardless of the size of their income. The deadline for entries is at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30. The essay needs to be 400 words or less and can be submitted to Texas National Bank Financial Literacy Essay Contest, P.O. Box 510, Sweetwater, Texas 79556. Entries should include the participant’s name and school.
Prizes for the essay contest will include a $100 prize for the best essay, $50 for the first runner-up and $25 for the second runner-up.
