Deadline Sunday for pageant entries

The deadline to enter the annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship pageant is 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12. The annual pageant tea will also be held Feb. 12, beginning at 2 p.m. at Java Jax, located at 325 Oak Street in Sweetwater.

The annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant is a time where young ladies from throughout the Big Country come together to compete for scholarship money. At last year's pageant, past queens were recognized for the 52nd year of the Miss Snake Charmer Pageant.
The annual pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. The pageant is open to all girls between the ages of 16-19 who live within a 75 mile radius of Sweetwater.
This year, the Jaycees will have $2,500 in scholarship money available to the winners. A total of $1,250 will be awarded to Miss Snake Charmer while $600 will be presented to the first runner-up. The second runner-up will receive $400 and the talent competition winner will receive $250.

The competitions will include talent, evening gown and casual wear this year. Prior to the pageant, contestants will be involved in several events and practices.
Beginning Friday, Feb. 17, the contestants will be part of the annual media day at 9 a.m.
During the pageant, Sweetwater High School senior Laney Wallace, daughter of Tania Brown, will turn the title over to the new Miss Snake Charmer.
