Della Light, age 97, of Sweetwater, died Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Good Life Senior Living Center in Snyder, following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on. Friday, March 8, 2013, at McCoy Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Chester McCown officiating. Interment will follow at the Lone Wolf Cemetery.
A family visitation will be held Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Mrs. Light was born March 28, 1915 in Hermleigh to Emil and Louise Schattel. She married Buford Light on May 5, 1934 in Snyder who preceded her in death on July 26, 1997. She and Buford lived and farmed at Hermleigh for many years before retiring and moving to Sweetwater. In her younger years, Della enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling and playing 88 and 42. She liked having all her family over for Sunday dinners.
Della is survived by one son, Morris Light and wife Charlene of Snyder; one daughter, Jonelle Kight of Hermleigh; one sister, Evelyn Clifton of Fredericksburg, Texas; one brother, Ernest Schattel and wife Janet of Roscoe; and a sister-in-law, Fern Schattel of Sweetwater. She has four grandchildren, Larry Light and Leslie Light of Snyder, Denise Miller of Sweetwater and Darren Kight of Frisco, Texas. Della has four great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four brothers, Walter, Leo, Eugene and John. A granddaughter, Dana Boggs also preceded her in death.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff of Good Life Senior Living Center for their care and a thank you to Compass Hospice.
The family would like in lieu of flowers, for memorials to be made to the Senior Nutritional Activities Program in Sweetwater or to oneâ€™s favorite charity.
Pallbearers will be Darren Kight, Larry Kight, Paul Miller, Mackey Greene, Joey Light and Dustin Bennett.
