Dennis Lester Schaefer, 55, of Norton passed away Monday, Aug. 15, 2011 at his residence.
He was born Oct. 20, 1955, in San Angelo to Lester and Edna (Lange) Schaefer. He graduated from Ballinger High School in 1974 and attended Angelo State University. A lifetime member of St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger he was also a member of Ballinger Knights of Columbus, Ballinger Young Farmers and Catholic Life.
Like many of his family, Dennis farmed and stock farmed in the Norton area, and he also dealt in the oil business. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, but one of his greatest joys was spending as much time as possible with his nieces and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister, Karen Ann.
Dennis is survived by his father, Lester Schaefer of Ballinger; sisters, Laverne Yarborough and husband, Jeff, of Sweetwater, and Brenda Alexander and husband, R. B., of Prosper; brothers, Ralph Schaefer and wife, Billie, Alton Schaefer and wife, Marla, all of Ballinger, Bernard Schaefer of Norton, and Greg Schaefer and wife, Misti, of Graham; nieces and nephew, Charlotte Schaefer of Roswell, New Mexico, Kristen and Olivia Alexander of Prosper, Brandon and Allison Schaefer of Ballinger, Emily and Lauren Schaefer of Graham. Also surviving are numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, including Roy Schaefer, Jr. and Baldwin Halfmann, his special domino-playing cousins; and special friends and partners in the oilfield, John, Ricky, and Kevin Stewart of Abilene.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17, at St. Mary, Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Ballinger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 10 a.m. also at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ballinger. Serving as pallbearers will be Rodney Richards, John Stewart, Dan Sothman, Travis Baird, Baldwin Halfmann and Roy Schaefer, Jr.
