Disaster declaration extended

June 28, 2011

The Nolan County Commissioners, at their Monday morning meeting June 27 at the Nolan County Courthouse, approved the extension of the disaster declaration and the order prohibiting outdoor burning for Nolan County another week.

The Nolan County Commissioners Court held its regular meeting on Monday morning, June 27 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
As approval must take place on a weekly basis, approval was once again given to extend the disaster declaration for Nolan County along with the order prohibiting outdoor burning for one week.
Other action items included approving the appointment of Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden to now serve the county as a death investigator. On many occasions, Madden is already on the scene and will assist whenever needed. The appointment will also free up on-site staff should more reports be called and assistance is needed.
Two requests were presented before the commissioners for the use of Courthouse property for community events; both requests were approved.
On Thursday, June 30, a presentation of baseball awards will take place on the south-side steps of the Courthouse at 7 p.m. Also, the Sweetwater Lions Club will use both the north and south parking lots to organize the 4th of July parade starting at 8:15 a.m. this coming Monday.
In addition, an interlocal agreement between the 911 department of the West Central Texas Council of Governments and Nolan County was approved. Another approval came for a bond for the community supervision and correction department.
Several reports were received during the meeting, coming from the Nolan County Sheriff and Tax Office, the Sweetwater/Nolan County Welfare Association and the Government Trapper. The minutes from the past three meetings on June 13, 14 and 20 were approved as well.
