With the holiday season fast approaching, the Nolan County Welfare Association (NCWA) wants to let the community know that their doors are open.
Rut (pronounced "root") Crowley, director of the NCWA, stated that they are able to give individuals one bag of food per month, stocked with one of each item that is in the food pantry. First-time recipients must fill out some paperwork prior to receiving the donation.
In addition, a clothes closet is available, in which there is no limit as to what people can take. And when available, monetary assistance can be given to help people pay for bills such as rent, gas or other utilities.
Funds are provided by the county as available, as well as through donations. All contributions--food, clothes or money--are tax-deductible since the charitable program is tax-exempt.
Crowley added that donations from people or organizations are always appreciated. Several area churches offer assistance to the food pantry, either by bringing non-perishable food items or money for food to be purchased. Recently, the Sweetwater Goodfellows made a donation toward the NCWA.
For the clothes closet, clothing of all sizes can be brought. However, there is a current need for men's clothing.
The NCWA office is located on the third floor of the Nolan County Courthouse and is open Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for anyone in need of items or those wanting to bring donations. Donations can also be brought to the office during regular Courthouse hours and will be added to the collection.
