Doris Newcomb, age 81 of Albany, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, December 28th at First Baptist Church with Rev. John Tunnell and Rev. Bob Knowles officiating. Interment will follow in the Albany Cemetery under the direction of Morehart Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, December 27th at Morehart Mortuary of Albany.
Doris Oneeta Finch was born January 15, 1931 in Hodges, Texas, to parents, Floyd Finch and Willie Mae Grammar Finch. She grew up in Hodges and later graduated from Hawley High School. She married William Douglas Newcomb, Sr. on May 12, 1952 in Abilene. Mrs. Newcomb was a homemaker, loved to cook for her family and take care of her grandchildren. Mrs. Newcomb was a member of First Baptist Church and loved to listen to gospel music. Mrs. Newcomb also could play piano by ear and used only one hand. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Erma Lee Rowland and Flora Mae Ledbetter; one brother, Rolene Finch.
Mrs. Newcomb is survived by one son, Doug Newcomb, Jr. and wife Terrye of Albany; two daughters, Patsy Jo Thompson and husband Bobbie of Albany, Diedra Thompson and husband Wayne of Sweetwater; eight grandchildren, Cricket Thompson and CJ Minor, J.R. Sanders and Stephanie, Dugan Thompson, Caleb Thompson, Kevin Thompson, April Wehba and Dustin Hughes, Kelly Wehba and Joanie, Daniel Newcomb and Halea; ten great grandchildren with two on the way; one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
