Dorotha Mae Ford Smith, 89, passed from this life on Sept. 17, 2011, to join her savior Jesus Christ and a host of angels. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Roscoe Church of Christ with Dan Boren, Royce Clay and Hershel McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Roscoe. A family visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, from 7-8:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home in Roscoe.
Dorotha was born Aug. 17, 1922, in Beardstown, Texas to Malvin Travis Ford and Bessie Marie Pearce Ford. She had a happy childhood growing up in Roscoe. As a teen she and her parents, while attending a baseball game, noticed a handsome young man playing baseball. She turned to her parents and told them she was going to marry that young man one day. That young man was Wilson L. Smith and he and Dorotha married almost three years later on Jan. 6, 1940 in Roscoe. His death on July 17, 2007, ended a beautiful 67 year marriage. Left to celebrate the lives of Wilson and Dorotha are their three children, son, Jimmy Wilson Smith and wife Candy of Plano, Texas; daughters, Barbara Smith O'Neil and husband Pete of Dallas, Texas and Stacey Smith Chaney of Plano, Texas; two grandsons; five granddaughters; and one adopted by love granddaughter; 14 great-grandchildren and many friends.
Pallbearers are Jared Cheney, Travis Smith, Chris Kennedy, Brent Taylor, Lance Tyler and Larry Flores.
Honorary pallbearer is Dale White.
