Dr. Bud E. Alldredge, Sr.
Dr. Bud E. Alldredge, 92, passed away Monday, March 25, 2013 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center in Sweetwater.There will be a family visitation Friday evening, March 29, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home, 401 East Third Street in Sweetwater. A 9:30 a.m. graveside service will be held at Sweetwater Cemetery on Saturday, March 30, 2013. Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. the same day at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Kary Fry officiating. Interment will be in Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.Dr. Bud was born April 25, 1920 in the Claytonville Community on Cottonwood Creek with his twin sister Velma (Tooter) to Miller and Myrtle “Gainer” Alldredge. He graduated Sweetwater High School in 1939. Dr. Bud went to Tarleton State University then to Texas A&M to join the Corp of Cadets. His education was interrupted by World War II. He activated his commission and joined the U.S. Army six months short of graduation. After discharge from the Army, he returned to Texas A&M and finished his degree in Veterinary Medicine. He then returned to Sweetwater in 1946 and established his veterinary practice. Dr. Bud built a new veterinary facility on the corner of Hiawatha and Broadway in 1947. A second facility was built in 1978. The practice recently received a Heritage Practice Award from The Texas Veterinary Association recognizing service to the community for more than 50 years. He and Loneta Cornelius Jarvis were married on August 27, 1942 in Abilene. He was preceded in death by Loneta on Sept. 8, 2000. Also preceding him in death were his parents, Myrtle and Miller Alldredge; his sisters, Velma Burkhart and Annie Jewel Wilson; his brother, Melvin (Son) and wife Eileen Alldredge. Dr. Bud served in several civic organizations including a member of Sweetwater ISD school board in the middle 1970s. He also enjoyed farming and ranching and especially watching baby calves.Dr. Bud is survived by his sons and their wives, Drs. Bud and Karen Alldredge of Sweetwater and Dr. Barry and Faye Alldredge of Colleyville. At the time of his death, he had five grandchildren and spouses, Dr. Bud and Kelly Alldredge III of Cleveland, TX, Michelle and Tom LaMendola of Chandler Ark., Staci and Travis Engel of Hurst, TX, Carrie Alldredge of Chicago, Ill. and Blake and Mandy Alldredge of College Station, TX. He also has six great-grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and five step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, JoAnn Jarvis Gardner of Midland and a close friend “Dudy” Gordon, formerly of Sweetwater.He loved and provided well for his family.
