Early voting to begin Oct. 21

October 9, 2013

It might seem as if there's plenty of time left, but Election Day will be here before we all know it.
The Constitutional Amendment Election will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013. At this time, however, voters can now start requesting a ballot by mail, in which Friday, Sept. 6 was the first day to apply.
The last day to register to vote was on Monday, Oct. 7. Additionally, the last day for the county clerk to receive the application to vote by mail is on Friday, Oct. 25.
The first day of early voting is on Monday, Oct. 21, which will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in the County Clerk's office located at 100 East Third, Suite 108. Friday, Nov. 1 will be the last day of early voting.
Election Day will then take place on the following Tuesday, Nov. 5, with polls open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The County Clerk's office wants to remind voters about the new voter ID law, which requires one of the following forms of identification before a person is allowed to vote. The ID is necessary even if a voter has their voter registration card on hand.
The types of ID that will be accepted are:
• Texas driver license issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
• Texas Election Identification Certificate issued free of charge by DPS (a new ID, which is not your voter registration card)
• Texas personal ID card issued by DPS
• Texas concealed handgun license issued by DPS
• US Military ID card containing person’s photograph
• US citizenship certificate containing person’s photograph, or
• US Passport
The County Clerk's office also has openings in Precinct 1 and Precinct 2 polling places for election judge as well as clerk's positions. Anyone interested in filling these roles, or anyone with questions regarding the election can contact County Clerk Pat McGowan at 325-235-2462 or 325-235-4635.
