Eleven units respond to grass fire

August 22, 2014

Firefighters battled a grass fire on CR 238 near CR 181 in the southwest part of Nolan County on Thursday. The blaze was started by a faulty electrical line going to a pump jack and burned approximately 20 acres. Eleven trucks responded to the scene including ones from Nolan County, Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Sweetwater VFD, Nolan VFD, Maryneal VFD, Nolan County Sheriff’s Office and Sweetwater Fire Department. An oilfield crew was working on a blown fuse on the line closer to Maryneal. Shortly after they repaired the problem and reenergized the circuit, the fire was reported near the end of the lines they had just energized.
