Funeral services for Elijio Martinez Hernandez, 70, of Sweetwater, will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at noon at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Okonkwa officiating. Interment will follow at Loraine Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 19, by Angie Limones at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Hernandez died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas.
He was born Dec. 1, 1941 in Pleasanton, Texas. He married Maria Limones on May 14, 1966 in Loraine, Texas. Elijio had been in the community for 21 years and lived in Loraine before that. He was a musician and loved playing his accordion and vajosexto.
Survivors include his wife, Maria Hernandez of Sweetwater; daughter, Diane Hernandez of Sweetwater; son, Frank Limones of Sweetwater; four grandsons, Albert Martinez of Sweetwater, Anthony Armendariz of Sweetwater, Frisco Limones of Lubbock and Stefan Limones of San Angelo; four brothers, Charlie Hernandez of Lubbock, Pete Hernandez of Sweetwater, Chano Hernandez of Sweetwater and Joe Hernandez of Sweetwater; three sisters, Louisa Hernandez of San Antonio, Cruz Hernandez of Snyder and Mary Hernandez of Altus, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pedro and Pascuala Hernandez; and two brothers, Tomas Hernandez and Avaristo Hernandez.
Pallbearers will be Frisco Limones, Stefan Limones, Albert Martinez, Joe Limones III, Andy Limones and Cheyenne Hernandez.
