Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Emma R. Gutierrez, 66, of Sweetwater, will be held Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwa officiating. Final disposition will be cremation under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 7 p.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories, recited by Connie Palacios and Alicia Velez.
Gutierrez died Tuesday, Jan. 17 in Abilene.
She was born on Nov. 16, 1945, in Sonora, Texas. She married Alfredo Gutierrez on March 30, 1979, in Roby. She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. She lived in Sweetwater the past 59 years. She spent most of her married life being a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Alfredo Gutierrez of Sweetwater; son, Freddie Gutierrez of Sweetwater; daughter, Julie Rogers of Wichita, Kansas; brother, Ernest Salazar and wife Kay of Mesquite, Texas; three sisters, Margaret Slaughter and husband John of Sweetwater, Martha Cornejo of Sweetwater and Eloisa San Juan and husband Pedro of Hamlin, Texas; two grandsons, Martin Gutierrez of Wichita, Kansas and David Rogers and wife April of Wichita, Kansas; granddaughter, Jennifer Flores of Wichita; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ermalinda Gutierrez; two sisters, Ofelia Salazar and Irma Guardarama; and parents, Cruz and Josephine Salazar.
Pallbearers will be Tino Gutierrez, Joe Gutierrez, Daniel Salazar, Raymon Salazar, Martin Limones, and Joe Salazar.
The family would like to give thanks to Abilene Regional Medical Center's nurses and all staff that took care of her. Special thanks to Dr. Corey Brown and Dr. Victor Hudman and Hospitalist Group for their extra special care.
