The inaugural Enchanted Darlings pageant is opening the door for area kids and teens to strut their stuff.
The "Beauty Pageant with Elegance" will be held at the LaQuinta Inn, located at 500 Northwest Georgia Avenue in Sweetwater, on Saturday, June 9, 2012 starting at 10 a.m. The pageant is open to girls all the way up to 18 years old and boys up to 6 years of age.
The genders are also broken down into age groups: Tiny Miss (girls 0-2 years old), Petite Miss (3-5 years), Little Miss (6-8 years), Young Miss (9-11 years), Junior Teen Miss (12-14 years) and Teen Miss (15-18 years). Boys are split into Tiny Prince (0-2 years old) or Little Prince (3-6 years).
There will be one Ultimate Grand Supreme, two Grand Supremes (one Natural and one Glitz), plus Queens, Kings, Princesses and Princes in each age division.
Debbie Tidwell of Abilene, the owner and director of the Enchanted Darlings pageant, grew up singing in and around Sweetwater and found the town as an excellent place to hold the pageant for area youth.
She hopes the event will serve as a springboard for contestants not only to advance to the state competition in Abilene on Sept. 15 at the MCM Elegante, but will give them exposure through her website on the pageant circuit along with possible modeling opportunities and other appearances.
The preliminary round includes one mandatory event with several optional events. The required beauty round (formal wear) allows contestants to either compete naturally, semi-glitz and full-glitz. Natural includes sun dresses and suits; semi or full glitz may include cupcake dresses with fake accents and tuxedos.
Optional events judged in one lineup at the end of each age group include Most Beautiful / Handsome; Best Smile, Eyes, Hair; Best Dressed; and Miss Congeniality/Mr. Personality.
Other optional events include Miss/Mr. Photogenic, where contestants can bring any single photo no larger than 8x10 to the pageant. In addition, there is also the Outfit of Choice competition which provides another chance to show off contestants' style and personality. This year's theme for Outfit of Choice will be "Flower Power", centralized around 1970s fashion.
Entry fees start at $30 for the formal wear event. Each additional optional event is $10 ($15 for the Photogenic contest), or $90 for the all-event special to compete in every contest. The pageant deadline is May 5, but for those who register at the door on Pageant Day, a $10 late fee will be assessed (no checks will be accepted on Pageant Day).
Entry forms and rules for the Enchanted Darlings preliminary pageant can be requested on their website (enchanteddarlingspageant.com) or via email at email@example.com, where they can also be submitted. Completed forms can also be sent to Enchanted Darlings, 2438 Industrial Blvd. PMB 194, Abilene, TX 79605. The entry fee can either be mailed or credit/debit information emailed, or can be paid by phone at 888-901-7556 or through PayPal (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Discounts (reported at least three days before the pageant) are also available for referrals to pageant entrants as well as sponsorship sales. All forms and fees must be signed and paid prior to the beginning of the pageant in order for the contestant to compete.
Prizes from the pageant include crowns, tiaras, scepters, sashes and trophies. The top winners from each age division will also advance to the state competition, where their beauty entry fee will be paid.
