Engineer: US 84 bridge project going well

June 3, 2013

According to Jesse Mendoza, Big Spring Area Engineer, the project to replace the US 84 eastbound overpass at westbound I-20 in Nolan County is going well.
The overpass was severely damaged after a collision in late September and was demolished in November to allow for a replacement.
The new bridge design includes large retaining walls that will maximize the clear zone distance for vehicles traveling beneath the structure, and this feature requires extensive construction, said Mendoza, who is overseeing the project. The overpass is now expected to be finished and ready to be opened to the public by mid-July or early August.
