E.S. (Snooky) Herring

E.S. (Snooky) Herring of Maryneal died Thursday, May 1, 2014 at the ranch. Born in Ballinger Sept. 19, 1932 to Zid and Mildred Herring, he grew up on family ranches in Runnels and Nolan County, attended school at Divide and graduated from Ballinger High School in 1951. He served in the US Army and was stationed in Korea with a small radar group, where he met and remained friends with several men from different states until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Zid Herring Jr. and sister Hettie Taylor. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jean (Smith Sheppard) and the three children he took into his heart when they married, Donna (Mike) Gosney, Randy (Jan) Sheppard and Rick (Cindy) Sheppard; two sisters, Billie Herring and Joy (Dalton) Owens; sister-in-law. Jo Ann Herring; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 10, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. in First Presbyterian Church in Sweetwater with Rev. Kary Fry officiating. The family will be at the church following the service for visitation with friends. He will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, Snooky requested memorials be given to West Texas Rehab or a charity of your choice.
