Everett Barnes, born August 28, 1937, in Center, TX, passed away into his heavenly home on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012.
He grew up in Sweetwater and graduated from Texas Tech as an industrial engineer. He married the love of his life, Jacqueline Wicks on March 29, 1970, in Garden Grove, Calif.
Preceded him in death were his father, Chester Barnes; and his mother, Georgia (Jones) Barnes.
Surviving him are his wife, Jacqueline of the home; daughter, Nichoel Barnes of Spring, Texas; son, Michael Barnes of Grapevine, Texas; sister, Peggy Maddox and husband Joe of Ozona, Texas; niece, Marjori Krebs and husband Paul of Albuquerque, N.M.; nephew, Dalton Maddox and wife Gretchen of Colorado City, Texas; and six great-nieces and nephews.
He began his working career with Flintkote while he was still in high school. He was a dedicated plant manager of many plants for Flintkote, Domtar and Georgia Pacific. He retired with 38 years of service. He believed in team management style of business and was well known in the industry for his ability to solve problems and run an efficient organization.
Everett was an avid golfer and frequent patron of the Sweetwater Country Club. He represented the company on many golf trips across the country. He and his golf buddies were a band of brothers.
He was a family man and a Christian who treasured his time with his family and proud of all their accomplishments. Lastly and certainly, although he lived in many different states as a plant manager, he was a Sweetwater man who never really wanted to live anywhere else.
Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Cathy Wicks officiating. A private family graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the memorial service at the Garden of Memories under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
