Everman routs Del Valle

September 3, 2012

Saturday’s final game of the Sammy Baugh Classic had one of the most intriguing matchups in the event’s history: a battle between a pair of perennial Class 4A playoff teams located more than 600 miles apart.
And in the first quarter alone, it had a 65-yard kickoff return to open the game plus a Classic-record 82-yard punt and a safety.
But the game ultimately proved to be onesided, as Everman easily defeated El Paso Del Valle 48-10.
Everman never trailed, but Del Valle — after its 82-yard punt that rolled dead at the 1 — got a safety to pull with 6-2. And after scoring runs by Everman’s Reggie Kincaid and Derrion Alexander, Del Valle got back within 20-10 on a scoring pass of its own.
But Alexander and Kin-caid each scored again to make it 34-10 at halftime, and the Bulldogs added two more touchdowns in the third quarter to finish the rout. Alexander, Everman’s quarterback, accounted for close to 200 yards passing, running and returning kicks to earn team MVP honors while Kincaid had 140 yards rushing and three touchdowns.
Dominick Cook and Domonique Collins also scored for Everman, which had 22 first downs and out-gained the Conquistadores 471-276 in what was the first Classic appearance for both teams. Everman — which has former Sweetwater athlete Justin Gee on its coach-ing staff — is scheduled to return here in Week 0 of the 2013 season to play another El Paso team.
Steven Montez’s 17-yard pass to Jose Rascon accoun-ted for El Paso Del Valle’s only touchdown. But recei-ver Jacob Robles, who had 149 yards on just six catch-es including a 71-yarder that nearly led to a score before halftime, was team MVP.
