Sight is one of the most precious senses one can possess, but many health factors can greatly reduce your vision. Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) will be focusing on eye health and wellness as the topic of this monthâs Lunch and Learn Seminar on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
Led by Cody Wilkinson, doctor of optometry and optometric glaucoma specialist, the seminar will cover the basics of eye health and how prominent diseases and health conditions can reduce or eliminate a personâs sight.
âGrowing up, we learn so much about how to protect our eyes whether it be to wash our hands before touching them or wearing sunglasses to protect them from harmful UV rays,â Wilkinson said. âAs we get older, there are many health conditions and diseases that we must also become aware of as they could affect your vision.â
Wilkinson explained that diseases such as diabetes, if unmanaged, can lead to blindness. In addition, he said that other eye conditions such as cataracts and macular degeneration should be closely monitored.
Appropriately related, RPMH will be working in conjunction with the Lions Club on a drive for used eye glasses.
Citizens are encouraged to bring their old glasses they no longer use for donation to needy individuals. There will be a donation box located in the hospital lobby.
To learn more about eye health, donât miss the Lunch and Learn Seminar on Wednesday at the RPMH Emergency Department classroom. The event will be held from noon until 1 p.m., and includes a brownbag lunch.
The seminar is free to attend, but space is limited and expected to reach capacity given this monthâs fascinating topic. Interested individuals must register before Sept. 17 by calling 325-235-1701 ext. 221.
