Highland’s Tyler Falcon has been named as a second team linebacker on the Six-Man All-Big Country foot-ball team by the Abilene Reporter-News and also received honorable mention as a running back.
Falcon had 76 solo tackles with 20 assists, 12 tackles for a loss and seven sacks, and also forced four fumbles and recovered one.
SHS hoopsters try to keep the wins coming
Sweetwater High School’s basketball teams hope to keep the wins coming when they go on the road today. The girls are at Snyder to start District 5-3A play at 6 p.m. while the boys have an 8 p.m. non-district game at San Angelo Lake View. The girls (14-11) have won eight of their last 11 and the boys (9-13) four of their last six.
Roscoe’s teams are at Haskell where the boys will start District 9-A, Division I play. Highland’s girls and boys will be home for their games with Westbrook in District 11-A, Division II, while Blackwell’s teams will travel to Water Valley in District 12-A, Division II.
Sweetwater’s boys start district action this Friday, when they entertain Abilene Wylie in a 5-3A basketball doubleheader with the girls. The boys lost to Ballinger 63-59 this past Friday, while the girls had the night off.
Ex-SHS coaches chosen for FCA hoops contest
ABILENE — A pair of former Sweetwater High School basketball coaches will be participating in the fourth annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes All-Star Women’s Basketball Classic to be held June 2 at Abilene Christian University’s Moody Coliseum.
Will Corley, head girls basketball coach at SHS from 2004-07, will be the head coach for the South all-star team. Corley, now at Eula, will be assisted by Jerry McSherry, the SHS head girls basketball coach the past two seasons until resigning this past spring to become head coach at Brady. Hawley’s Brad Schoonmaker and Brownwood’s Bob Shipley (South) will be the all-star football coaches.
