Fire burns 1300 acres

A Thursday afternoon fire consumed 1300 acres just West of Blackwell according to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden. Madden stated that the fire began on County Road 265 on Diamond Plate Ranch. The fire is thought to have been started by a lit cigarette being thrown on the road. Several homes were threatened by the fire, but were all saved. It took several entities from 2-10 p.m. to contain the blaze. Those involved in extinguishing the blaze were the Coke County Commissioners, Runnels County Commissioners, Nolan County Commissioners, Robert Lee Volunteer Fire Department, Winters Volunteer Fire Department, Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, Nolan Volunteer Fire Department, Bronte Volunteer Fire Department, Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department, Sweetwater Fire Department and the Texas Forrest Service.
