Fire burns 500 acres

Several fire departments are currently responding to the M&M Ranch fire near Maryneal. According to Sweetwater fire Chief Grant Madden, a total of 500 acres have already burned as firefighters continue to battle the blaze. The cause of the fire is of a "suspicious" nature, according to Madden. Those fighting the fire include the Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department, Trent Volunteer Fire Department, Blackwell Volunteer Fire Department, Robert Lee Volunteer Fire Department, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, Nolan Volunteer Fire Department, Nolan County Commissioners, Ballinger Fire Department, Sweetwater Fire Department, personal maintainer Paul Dent cutting fire lines, the Texas Forest Service (TFS) Task Force, three TFS SEATS (Specially Equipped Aerial Tankers), one heavy tanker, two spotters and one heavy helicopter. The Sweetwater Elks Lodge donated ice to firefighters.
