Firefighters battle blaze near Lake Trammell

Area firefighters were still battling a large blaze on Saturday afternoon in Nolan County near Lake Trammell. The fire began around 2 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2011, near a barn just off of County Road 145, near Camp Boothe Oaks according to Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden. According to the Texas Forrest Service, 500 acres have already been burned. The Sweetwater Fire Department lost a truck during the blaze. The cause of the fire is still under investigation by Nolan County authorities. Those involved in fighting the fire were the Texas Forrest Service, Roscoe Volunteer Fire Department, Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department, Nolan Volunteer Fire Department, Lake Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department and the Sweetwater Fire Department. Elevated fire weather conditions continue today across the western half of Texas according to the Texas Forrest Service. Since fire season started on Nov. 15, 2010, Texas Forest Service and area fire departments have responded to 11,695 fires that have burned 2,876,303 acres.
