First graders at Southeast Elementary School in Mrs. Amy Nixon's and Mrs. Bethany Bryan's classes put together care packages for troops over in Afghanistan.
Christopher Soles, father to student Madison Soles, and Mrs. Bryan's husband are two of the soldiers who will benefit from the care packages.
Mrs. Nixon and Mrs. Bryan had their students bring snacks, toiletries, magazines, movies, games and stationary to make up the care packages. High school students and community members donated as well.
After Freedom Week was started about a week before school began and after finding out that Madison's dad is in Afghanistan, Mrs. Nixon and Mrs. Bryan used the opportunity to raise awareness of troops fighting overseas. All the packages will be shipped out today, Monday, Oct. 1, 2012.
