Sweetwater will have four Little League all-star teams competing this week in District 5 tournaments.
Pool games start Wednesday at each tournament and continue through Tuesday, July 3 for all-star teams in the 9-10, 10-11 and 11-12 year-old tournaments. The pool play for the Junior League (13-14) tournament will conclude this Saturday.
In the 9-10 and 11-12 year-old tourneys, all three pool winners will advance to the semifinal round, along with the second place team with the lowest runs allowed per inning ratio as the wild card entry. The winners of the semifinal games will play for their respective championships on Friday, July 6 at Abilene’s Will Hair Park.
However, there will be only one pool in the 10-11 year-old tournament and just two pools in the Junior League event.
In the Junior League tournament, the teams with the two best records in each pool will advance with the No. 1 team in one pool playing the No. 2 team in the other pool. From there, the semifinal winners play for the championship July 5 at Abilene Wylie.
Meanwhile, in the 10-11 year-old tournament, if any of the six teams are able to finish undefeated in pool play that team will be district champion. Otherwise, the two top pool teams by record (with fewest runs allowed being the league tiebreaker if necessary) play a winner-take-all championship game July 5 at Abilene Wylie. A list of Sweetwater’s all-star players is below.
