Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department

Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the health department on Thursday, May 19, from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose (sugar) and answer any questions anyone may have regarding diabetes. Pamphlets and materials will be available.
The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD) provides immunizations every Wednesday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1-4:30 p.m. The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department encourages residents to keep children up-to-date on their vaccines. For more information regarding immunizations, call 235-5463. Through the health department's Vaccine for Children program the cost is $6 per child, and the health department accepts Medicaid and CHIPS. Parents are reminded that all students entering kindergarten are required to have two doses of Hepatitis A vaccine and two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine. All students entering seventh grade are required to have one dose of Tetanus and Diphtheria toxoids and acellular Pertussis vaccine (TDAP) vaccine, one dose of meningococcal vaccine and two doses of varicella vaccine. A written statement from a legal guardian, school nurse or physician attesting to a child’s positive history of varicella disease (chickenpox), or of varicella immunity is acceptable in lieu of either dose of varicella vaccine. The Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department also offers vaccines to adults. Meningococcal Conjugate for uninsured and underinsured adults who are at risk; and Human Papillomavirus for all uninsured or underinsured female and male adults 19 through 26 years of age.
Family Planning services are available through several funding sources. Services include pap smears, breast exams, pregnancy testing, methods of birth control and screening and testing for sexually transmitted diseases. For an appointment call 235-2869.
The SNCHD stresses the importance of good health and encourages the community to take advantage of the monthly events sponsored each month by organizations that care about your health.
