Freshman, JV girls tip off district

Sweetwater’s freshman and junior varsity girls basketball teams began district action this past Friday by playing home games against Big Spring and traveled to Greenwood on Tuesday. The freshman girls are 1-1, losing to Big Spring 28-23 and defeating Greenwood 41-23, while the JV girls are 0-2, losing to Big Spring 33-28 and falling 33-24 to Greenwood.
Lauren Jones was the top scorer in both freshman games, scoring 14 against Big Spring and 22 against Greenwood. Kaitlyn Foster had six points for the Lady Mustangs against Green-wood and four against Big Spring. In addition, Davina Walker had five points vs. Greenwood and two vs. Big Spring; Sonya Sanchez had four vs. Greenwood and one vs. Big Spring; Danielle Vega had two against Greenwood and Big Spring; and Allison Langford had two points vs. Greenwood.
In the Sweetwater JV girls game vs. Greenwood, Abby Garcia scored seven points, Alaina Andrews and Maris-sa Sanchez five, Jaya Atkins three and Kensi Chowning and Payton Moore two. Individual point totals for the Big Spring game were not available at press time.
