Sweetwater High Schoolâs freshman and junior varsity football teams were winners this past Thursday at home.
The freshmen defeated Breckenridge 32-16, while Sweetwaterâs JV squad beat Breckenridge 14-2.
Adrian Vizzerra and Aus-tin Kamer had scoring runs for the freshmen (2-1), who also scored touchdowns on a 20-yard pass from Max Gomez to Colby Greenwood and a 65-yard kickoff return from Dâ Jaman West. Con-verting two-point runs were Vizzerra, Isaiah Gonzales and Gomez while Michael Lawrence caught a pass for his two-point conversion against Breckenridge, which trailed Sweetwater 32-0 until two second-half touchdowns.
Other offensive standouts for Sweetwater were Bran-son Guelker, Israel Vera, Mark Lawrence, Dylan Jiminez and Max Nemir while defensive standouts included West, Gonzales, Vizzerra, Cory Mendez, Daniel Maldonado, Scott Warner and Denzel Moore. It was Sweetwaterâs second straight win after a season-opening loss to Eastland.
Sweetwaterâs JV team is 3-0 after beating Brecken-ridge. Hayden Reeves threw first-half scoring passes of 42 and 36 yards to Deandre Gatson. Reeves was 12-of-20 passing for 119 yards; Gatson caught five passes for 91 yards; and Jay Lomas ran for 51 yards. Austin Marlett had nine tackles, four for a loss, and Donato Gaxiola had six tackles, two for a loss. Kris Duran caught a two-point pass that was thrown by Reeves.
âI thought it was a great effort by the kids,â coach Jake Freeman said. âWe made plays offensively when we needed to and limited the big play defensively. We love seeing 11 helmets to the football on every play.â
Both Sweetwater teams will host Wall this week.
