Gee receives Teacher Tribute Award
Students pay attention and learn more than most might think. Brandi Gee, a Sweetwater High School algebra teacher, witnessed just how much of an impact she had made on one of her students. Gee was chosen as a recipient of the Teacher Tribute, after being nominated by Marisa Morgan. Teacher Tribute is a program that has been celebrating great students and great teachers, for the past ten years. During that ten years, a little over two hundred teachers have been recognized. “I was very surprised,” Gee said. “I like to make algebra fun for my students.”Gee and Morgan received a Walmart gift card from KTXS, the chance to be a guest DJ on KEAN 105.1 and a gift card from the Abilene Reporter News. Gee also received a basket of goodies, two-weeks of driving a new car and a $100 check, from Arrow Ford. The Abilene Reporter News, Arrow Ford and KTXS joined together to not only recognize teachers that have inspired and motivated students, but to say thank you. The program is a success, according to the Teacher Tribute Web site, because of the relationships that exist between the teachers and students, of the Big Country. Teachers are selected through nomination letters. In each letter, the student is asked to explain the positive impact that a teacher has had on their lives. Two to four nominees are chosen a month; each nominee is honored for a week. If you would like to nominate a teacher visit www.arrowteachertribute.com.
