Gerald Dorey “Jerry” Runyard

Graveside services for Gerald Dorey “Jerry” Runyard, 94, of Sweetwater, will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater. Mark White, his grandson, will officiate with interment to follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Runyard died Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 28, 1919 in Antioc, Illinois. He married Peggy Lois Smith on Nov. 8, 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico.
Jerry was a member of the United Methodist Church. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a degree in Agriculture. He spent 30 years of his life serving in the United States Air Force and with the 509th Bomb Squadron in WWII retiring as a Lt. Col. in 1970. He moved to Sweetwater in 1970.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Runyard of Green Mountain Falls, Colo.; daughter, Kaye White of Galveston, formerly of Sweetwater; grandson, Mark Lendon White of Galveston, formerly of Sweetwater; granddaughter, Rinda French and husband Jerry of Hitchcock, TX; great-granddaughters, Whitney Burnett of Galveston, and Chelsea Ruiz and husband Mario of Texas City; and great-great-granddaughter, Rylee Kaye Ruiz of Texas City.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Lois Smith in 2011; and a son-in-law, Lendon White, in 2013.
