Gladys Turner, age 96, of Sweetwater passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013 at Sweetwater Healthcare Center. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2013 at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Reverend Brian Brownlow officiating. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
Gladys was born to Adrian and Clara McKee on Jan. 1, 1917 at Nolan, Texas and was a graduate of Divide High School. She married Leonard Turner on Jan. 30, 1954 in Sweetwater and lived in Nolan County all her life. She worked for Lone Star Gas Company for seven years and then she and Leonard owned and operated Turner Hardware for 11 years. She was a member of First United Methodist Church and was very active in the church. Gladys was a charter member of the BPOE Does and attended SNAP on a regular basis.
She is survived by her sisters Wanda Hemby of Purcellville, VA., Laura Thornton and husband Bill of Tuscola, Texas, a sister-in-law Maisie (McKee) Mason of Arlington, Texas and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard on Aug. 16, 2004; her parents; three brothers; two sisters; and one niece.
Pallbearers will be Walt May, Bob Hefner, Jack Lawrence, Brian Brownlow and Tommy McCoy.
